grants.gov announces major changes

Grants.gov representatives recently announced that the current system integration contract for Grants.gov with Northrup Grumman is terminating.  The new contract has been awarded to Anteon Corporation, who will pick up the work of developing a platform-independent system.  The transition from Northrup Grumman to Anteon is scheduled to be completed prior to October 31, 2006.  Grants.gov representatives assured the audience that the long-awaited Macintosh viewer is on schedule for delivery on October 31, 2006, and will be deployed for production in November 2006.

Adobe Forms to Replace Pure Edge.  Anteon will deploy a new Grants.gov system by April 1, 2007.  The proposed technical solution will replace the IBM WorkPlace Forms (formerly PureEdge) with Adobe forms server.  Adobe forms will support all grant applicants regardless of the operating system utilized by the institution.  In addition, a new Google search engine will improve searching capacity for grant applications and Web site content.  Anteon has also been charged with establishing a more flexible and robust architecture to support increased peak processing loads.

Grants.gov does not expect the change to impact either the applicants or federal funding agencies during the transition to the Adobe forms.  When the new system is completed, Grants.gov will be able to receive both PureEdge and Adobe forms for some period to accommodate the applicant community during the transition period.  [Source:  Federal Grants News for Colleges and Universities, October 2006]
